TEACHER SUPPLY STORE:
Ready for Another Year
Since 2018, Suffolk Public Schools and the Suffolk Education Foundation have teamed up to bring the SPS teachers a unique Teacher Supply Store. To fill unmet classroom needs, all Suffolk school teachers can “shop” monthly for items at no cost to themselves. These free supplies supplement their classroom and help students in need throughout the school year.
The store is open Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., housed at John F. Kennedy Middle School. The store opens in August and remains open until May each year.

Nationwide, it is estimated that more than 15 million children don't have the resources they need to succeed in school … and that teachers spend more than $1 billion a year stocking their own classrooms due to a lack of school funding. That computes to teachers spending close to $500 of their own money to give all students the basics for success.
Unfortunately, a year of virtual education has increased the need … as many students lacked the supplies at home needed to participate and learn online. At the start of the 2020-21 school year, the Suffolk Education Foundation provided 800 virtual learning kits to families in need throughout the city. The kits included earbuds, whiteboard, dry-erase markers, pencils, paper and other items, but they ran out before the distribution was scheduled to end.
Our foundation also worked with Suffolk Public Schools to secure 500 mobile internet devices to assist families with online learning. Many parts of the city do not have adequate Internet services, so the mobile hotspots allowed those students to connect to their classes during the 2020-21 school year.
